.After a freak accident in Scotland, Bali (Sagoo) is left in a coma. His doting grandfather, Kartar Singh (Tahil), travels to the Punjab for blessings of a speedy recovery for his grandson. Accompanying him on his holy journey is Manpreet (Jhangiani), a traditional village belle. Kartar returns to Scotland with Manpreet, envisaging her to be the daughter-in-law he always dreamed of, but finds Bali awake and harbouring intentions to marry dancer Charlene (Zoe Szypillo). On the scenic mountain town of Madhopur lives a lively and vivacious young woman named Basanti, who runs a business "Basanti's Shop" by selling novelties and dolls, along with her aged father. She meets Raj Kumar, a singer, during one of his shows at the nearby Hotel Tin Min, and both fall in love. They plan to get married, but before that Raj has to perform a show in Bombay, as well as bring his mother over to introduce her to Basanti. Raj never returns. A close friend of the family, Gopi, goes to the city to locate Raj, as Basanti's health is fast deteriorating. He finds Raj singing in a hotel room surrounded by scores of female fans. Enraged at this betrayal, he later storms into Raj's hotel room - only to find out the devastating truth as to why Raj chose to stay away from Basanti.

Widowed and ailing Savitri Choudhury lives a wealthy lifestyle along with her son, Anil, in a palatial mansion in India. She knows that Anil is only waiting for her to die so that he can inherit the wealth and refuses to give him any money. The Diwan convinces Anil to mend his ways, get married, and patch-up with his mom. Shortly thereafter Anil does appear to have mended his ways, gets involved in charity, and even introduces a young woman named Deepali to his mom. Deepali moves in the mansion, looks after Savitri so much so that Savitri decides to make her the sole beneficiary of her estate. What Savitri does not know is that Anil has hired Deepali to act as his fiancée, and that Deepali herself is not who she claims to be, and is actually in love with a local horse-riding peasant, Ajit, whose father was convicted of killing Savitri's husband, and soon Ajit himself will be arrested by the Police for having an affair and then killing a woman named Sita.

Balwant and Vikramaditya used to be best friends despite the fact that the latter was a land owner and the former was a farmer. Their friendship was an example for everyone and they were inseparable until one horrible day. Balwant's daughter Simran was supposed to marry Vikramaditya's son Sumer. But it turned out that Sumer was already married (and had a son with his wife Bindya). Sumer hadn't told anyone. On the day of his proposed marriage to Simran, Sumer runs away to get Bindiya and tells Vikramaditya everything. Simran follows Sumer to tell him that she respects his decision and she doesn't want to marry him if he is already married. Simran is heartbroken as she has loved Sumer since her childhood but she swallows her pain in order to make him happy. Balwant and Vikramaditya reach the train station, where Simran and Sumer are standing. A car runs over Simran. In a fit of rage Balwant's son Kuldeep shoots Sumer. Kuldeep goes to jail and the families become sworn enemies.
